1960's - 1980's 
The Advent Of Malls



During the 1960's, shopping malls, began appearing across the country.  Regionally, Hecht's played a prominent role in those appearances, serving as the anchor at both Tysons Corner Center in McLean, Virginia and Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, Maryland, two of the earliset major malls in the Washingtron metropolitan area.






In 1973, The Hecht Company, Washington, and The Hecht Company, Baltimore, merged.  Until then, they had operated with separate managemnet teams, buyers, and CEO's.  Under this new , consolidated management, Hecht's opened thirteen stores in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.






This is the Largest four level, freestanding Department store build in a downtown location since World World II.
